Respiratory Therapist ($20k sign on bonus; Full-time; 12 hr Days)

The Respiratory Therapist provides patient care through the initial and ongoing assessment of patient condition and effects of therapeutics, the direct administration of therapeutics, the set up and support of mechanical ventilation equipment, performance of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic testing, and the completion of necessary documents for use by the respiratory therapy department and medical records. Participates in discharge planning and patient education as necessary.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

“*” Denotes essential job functions according to ADA guidelines.

*1. Mechanical Ventilation. Exhibits appropriate knowledge of the operation and effects of mechanical ventilation. Provides for the safe set up and maintenance of mechanical ventilation equipment.

*2. Assessment. Accepts and transcribes verbal orders from physicians regarding all aspects of respiratory therapy. Repeats the verbal orders to the ordering physician to verify they are correct. Evaluates physician orders for the appropriateness of care, as well as the ongoing and final effectiveness of treatment, through the regular assessment of patient condition.

*3. Provides therapeutics directly to patient as prescribed by physician, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

*4. Diagnostic Testing. Provides diagnostic testing as ordered by physician to assess the mechanics of respiration and status of patient oxygenation. Diagnostic testing may include electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas analysis, oximetry or pulmonary function testing.

*5. Professionalism and Leadership: Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude to patients, families, clients, coworkers and others

*6. Participates in the performance improvement activities of the unit or department.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy program; 6 months experience preferred.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

Registered by the National Boar d for Respiratory Therapy. Permit or Licensed holder by the state of to practice respiratory care. Certified eligible therapist is required to have an RCP license from the state of within 180 days after hire date. Failure to obtain a license in that time may result in termination.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

CPR; ACLS; PALS;CPI

Ability to effectively and empathetically with patients, families, and co-workers

Time management, clinical reasoning, screening and assessment skills
